The Cyrenians have launched a new fundraising event, The Big Breakfast, and we are calling for our supporters to sign up to take part.
The Big Breakfast will take place during September this year, and we are inviting people to come together, cook together, or simply share a meal together, enjoying some good food and raising funds to help us tackle food poverty, but also some of the other major causes and consequences of homelessness.
Ewan Aitken, CEO of Cyrenians, said “It’s troubling that nearly one in ten people in Scotland have recently gone without food, or worried about being able to feed themselves [1]. Access to good food is a key part of preventing homelessness, but food isn’t just about nutrition; the company shared over a meal can be as life-changing as the meal itself. By hosting your own Big Breakfast, your support means that we can continue to grow the number of people we reach in our community and the number of meals that are made and shared.”
Ali Kerr, Senior Relationships Manager at Cyrenians, said “We are really excited to launch this event, not only because it will help raise much needed funds for our work, but because it will help to start discussions about homelessness and its causes and consequences, raising awareness and hopefully creating a sense of shared responsibility. Already, we have the support of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Essential Edinburgh, and we have had lots of interest from people who want to get involved, including schools and hotels. We’re sure that the Big Breakfast will be a fantastic event for everyone involved so please join us and sign up to take part.”
