edie announced as official Race to Zero Accelerator and media partner ahead of COP26

edie has been announced as an official “Accelerator” of the UN-backed Race to Zero campaign as part of a concerted effort to build momentum for the global race to net-zero emissions in the run-up to the COP26 climate talks.

The agreement, announced six weeks out from COP26, will also see edie positioned as a media partner for the campaign, with an aim to encourage more businesses to set science-based emissions reduction targets through our award-winning content and events.

Led by the High-Level Climate Champions for Climate Action, Nigel Topping and Gonzalo Muñoz, the Race to Zero campaign has so far mobilised 3,067 businesses, 733 cities, 31 regions, 173 investors and 624 education institutions around a healthy, resilient, net-zero carbon recovery.

Commenting on edie’s involvement as an Accelerator and media partner, the UN’s High-Level Climate Action Champion, Nigel Topping, said: “Sustainability and energy professionals are absolutely crucial in the global fight against climate change.

“We’re therefore delighted to be working with edie as an official Race to Zero Accelerator and media partner, to encourage and support businesses across all industries in setting and achieving ambitious net-zero carbon targets.”

edie’s Content Director Luke Nicholls added: “As the UK’s largest sustainable business media brand, edie has been empowering businesses to ramp up their climate ambitions for more than 20 years. But ambition alone isn’t good enough – we need to Race to Zero.

“By joining forces with the largest, fastest climate action coalition ever assembled, our content and events teams will raise awareness of the benefits of minimising emissions, and encourage our members to Join the Race through credible climate targets over the coming weeks and months.”

Pledge, Plan, Publish

Race to Zero was established in 2020 with an overarching goal to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions as soon as possible, by 2050 at the latest. To join the Race, businesses must commit to emissions reduction targets in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement; have clear plans in place to achieve those targets, and periodically report on progress. As an Accelerator of the campaign, edie commits to amplify Race to Zero membership by supporting readers, event attendees and club members in their decarbonisation efforts and by spreading awareness of the Campaign through ongoing content and events. This is the latest in a line of major partnerships and initiatives announced by edie as part of the Countdown to COP26 Festival. Supported by headline partner O2, the Festival is informing and inspiring businesses to seize the opportunity of the crucial UN climate talks which are being held in Glasgow this November.
