Farfetch partners with on-demand donation service, Thrift+

Farfetch Limited and Thrift+, an on-demand donation service for second-hand clothes and participant in Farfetch’s Dream Assembly programme, have announced a partnership to allow Farfetch customers to easily donate clothes they no longer use.

Through the partnership, Farfetch customers will be able to order a Thrift+ x Farfetch donation bag online and select a charity of their choice. All customers have to do is pack their unwanted fashion items into the bag, book a free collection service, or alternatively drop it off at a local drop-off point. When the bag is received, Thrift+ photographs the items and then lists them for sale online on the Thrift+ website. Once an item sells, a third of the proceeds are donated to the nominated charity and a third is given to the customer as Farfetch credit.  The remaining third of the money is used to cover Thrift+’s costs. Alternatively, customers can choose to forgo Farfetch credit and donate all the money, less Thrift+ costs to their nominated charity. Thrift+ supports donations to any of the 160,000 registered charities in the UK.

Thomas Berry, Director of Sustainable Business, Farfetch, said: “We know our consumers would like an easy way to clear their wardrobes of unused items, and at the same time, they would like to feel positive about it. Thrift+ x Farfetch links our customer base with an innovative service that improves the donation experience and has a positive impact by giving good quality clothes another useful life and supporting multiple charities. This is a natural extension to our Farfetch Second Life resale programme, focused on luxury handbags, and part of our broader approach to sustainability.”

Joe Metcalfe, Founder, Thrift+, said: “We make donating second-hand clothes more effective, more

transparent and more convenient giving second-hand shoppers the same quality shopping experience as regular shoppers. Thrift+ was founded with the mission of bringing charity shops online. For this reason, we are delighted to be partnering with the leading global technology platform for the luxury fashion industry and to support them on their sustainability journey.”

Part of Positively Farfetch, this partnership further exemplifies Farfetch’s mission to become the global platform for good in luxury fashion – empowering everyone we work with to think, act and choose positively. Thrift+ x Farfetch is featured on Farfetch’s newly launched Positively Conscious page [link] on farfetch.com with a host of brand, boutique, and community features designed to help our consumers make positive choices. Additionally, Browns Fashion, owned by Farfetch, as part of their Browns Conscious launch, are unveiling a one of a kind collection from LVMH prize nominee Duran Lantink. The 45 piece collection utilises previously unused items from Browns warehouse and address an ongoing concern within the retail model – how to manage deadstock.  In doing so, Duran has made something new and beautiful whilst supporting the circular economy.

Thrift x Farfetch is a UK only partnership.
