Free online fundraising course from the Centre for Philanthropy

The Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Kent is aiming to help small charities, non-profit organisations, and community and volunteer-led groups fundraise more effectively by offering practical advice and assistance via its new MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).

The free course, titled ‘How to Fundraise: A Guide to Fundraising for Non-Fundraisers’, goes live on 8 June 2020, and will help individuals design sustainable fundraising strategies using insights from evidence-based research on the motivations behind donor giving.

Working through the three-week MOOC, individuals will be able to develop skills in fundraising management while gaining an understanding of the resource and finance required to support the long-term fundraising goals of their organisation.

Dr Lesley Alborough, Research Fellow at the Centre for Philanthropy, said: ‘As many charities, community groups and non-profit organisations look to recover from the additional financial challenges presented during the COVID-19 pandemic, this MOOC will provide essential advice and guidance to help them get back on track with fundraising. The best fundraising strategies emotionally and socially resonate with donors, volunteers and staff alike and we aim to help more organisations identify how to engage with their individual supporters.’
