GiveWheel turns tables on event fundraising – now donors choose the cause

Fundraising platform GiveWheel has launched a new feature that turns the tables on event and individual sponsorship – controversially letting donors choose the charities that receive the income.

The fundraiser can decide whether friends and family opt into a new DonorLed functionality – which opens up possibilities for smaller, niche causes, and charities meaningful to the donors themselves to benefit from their efforts.

It won’t be for everyone, but it is hoped that donor-led fundraising can unlock charitable giving for events that don’t traditionally fundraise, and challenge donor fatigue in the sector – as donors now hold a stake in who benefits.

GiveWheel Co-Founder Charlie Hart explains:

“DonorLed has the potential to increase donor engagement and satisfaction. Supporters give more when they feel their donation directly supports a cause they care about, and DonorLed taps into that powerful motivation.

“This not only helps fundraisers raise more money but also creates a more interactive community, where everyone feels their input and involvement truly matters.”

Exclusive to GiveWheel, DonorLed enables several options:

  • Unlimited: donors can choose literally any charity.

  • Selective: donors choose from charities set by the fundraiser.

  • Split: donations are divided between a supporters’ choice and charity(s) chosen by the fundraiser.

GiveWheel also has a ‘GiveReel’ function – a tailor-made report in the style of a ‘Spotify Wrapped’, that’s perfect for social sharing and showcasing back to donors what they’ve achieved together. This ‘Instagrammable’ content leans into a culture of consistently updating followers, and helps showcase the work and impact of the chosen charities.

GiveWheel is the UK’s most customisable multi-charity fundraising platform. Free to use, GiveWheel is trusted by individuals, companies, and charities to handle fundraising donations across individual and team events, as well as ticketed events including raffles, prize draws and online auctions.
