The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is running a circular economy and climate change learning series designed for young people based on the African continent — Change for Climate: A Masterclass for Teenagers in Africa.
The free online series is open to anyone aged 13 to 19 years old who is living or studying in Africa. Registrations are now open for the series, which will run from 2nd to 25th August 2022.
And participants have the chance to win the Inscape Young Designers Award!
What is the series about?
Change for Climate will explore new ways of designing, making, and using things that are better for people and the planet. When we talk about tackling climate change, we often talk about the switch to renewable energy — and although this is vital, it’s only half the story. Almost half of greenhouse gas emissions come from the way we make and use products and food. This programme, in partnership with Inscape and the African Leadership University, will demonstrate how circular economy innovation is key to reducing emissions.
How does it work?
The series includes two live interactive webinars with a different challenge each week — encouraging participants to think creatively and have lots of fun while designing their own solutions to address climate change using circular economy ideas.
-
In the first webinar, participants will be introduced to a key topic by the Foundation’s experts and guest speakers from the African continent, illustrated by inspiring examples of real change that are being implemented across Africa
-
This will be followed by a reflective session which will dive deeper into the topic and examples, where participants can ask questions, share ideas, and discuss ways of approaching the week’s challenge
-
The sessions will be recorded for participants who are unable to attend on the day.
-
Weekly prizes will be awarded
-
The programme will close with a bigger challenge that will tie all the learnings together, with the chance to win the Inscape Young Designers Award. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the best submissions
