Over 100 Ukrainian charities and NGOs now benefiting from tech pro-bono projects

Tech To The Rescue campaign supporting Ukrainian organizations with digital transformation – projects include fundraising platform for humanitarian assistance, refugee information services and data security for evidence of war crimes.

Tech To The Rescue, a foundation that matches IT companies and nonprofit organizations to implement pro bono technology solutions, kicked off its #TechForUkraine campaign in February 2022, as a result of the war Russia waged on Ukraine. The following month, the nonprofit was selected to receive a $500,000 grant and a Google.org Fellowship with 9 Googlers joining the nonprofit full time, pro bono, for 6 months to help build and scale their platform.

Tech To The Rescue’s partnership-focused approach to philanthropy allowed the nonprofit to support Ukrainian people through the different stages of the war: As of October 2022, the #TechForUkraine campaign digitized over 100 nonprofits providing relief to Ukraine by matching them with tech talent. Some of the efforts included saving Ukrainian cultural heritage online, finding accommodation for 4,600 displaced Ukrainians with UASOS, or helping US-based NGO Nova Ukraine raise $31 million for humanitarian aid.

Jacek Siadkowski, Founder, Tech To The Rescue said:

“The tech industry’s response to the war in Ukraine requires wisdom, long-term thinking, and coordination. Prudence to implement solutions where they are needed most. Coordination to avoid duplication of effort and to achieve synergy in the activities of the various stakeholders.

Tech To The Rescue is in a great position to coordinate the response, but without Fellows it would be difficult to sustain our intervention and adapt to the situation so quickly. Now we are ready to provide technical solutions on a large scale.”

Jen Carter, Global Head of Technology, Google.org

“One of the differentiating factors of the Google.org Fellowship with Tech to the Rescue is the scale of the impact supporting an organization like this could have. For any given improvement the Fellows support for this platform, their work is multiplied across all nonprofits Tech to the Rescue will be working with.”

“Tech to the Rescue’s operational model allows the organization to respond to crises such as the war in Ukraine with a multi-faceted approach. This allows the Google.org Fellows to also support crisis relief efforts through a variety of nonprofits and initiatives: For any given improvement they support for this platform, their work is multiplied across all nonprofits Tech to the Rescue will be working with in the future.”

Some Projects

Nova Ukraine

Nova Ukraine’s fundraising platform is dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Tech To The Rescue matched Nova Ukraine with Automattic to help develop a new website and fundraising platform.

Since the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine, Nova Ukraine raised and spent over $31 million dollars for Ukrainian relief efforts, and helped over 3 million people with 3,500 volunteers through:

  • Over 3 million meals served
  • Over 400,000 aid packages delivered
  • Over 100,000 people and animals evacuated
  • Over 8 thousand tons of aid delivered

Everyone we worked with was wonderful. We had a team that was fully dedicated to our project, which was a great relief for us. For several weeks we worked hand in hand, and Automattic gave us its unlimited time. I’m happy that we now have a well-positioned website with a good structure and branding, and we can clearly communicate our goals and activities.
Alona Harrison, Project Manager at Nova Ukraine

Mapujpomoc.pl by the Culture Lab Foundation

Mapujpomoc.pl has created the largest nationwide database of organizations actively helping Ukrainian refugees. Tech To The Rescue matched Mapujpomoc.pl with Mohi.to to help them develop a secure platform that connects refugees to organizations by providing refugees with access to real-time information, resources, and support.

Since the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine, more than 1,000 organizations in Poland were mapped and more than 30 types of assistance were provided, including:

  • 180 legal aid requests
  • 300 medical requests
  • 300 material requests
  • 160 shelter requests

Thanks to Tech To The Rescue and Mohi.to, we launched the platform at a time when it was needed the most. It was a success story – without the free support, we would not be able to run the platform in a good way.”
Monika Miłowska, CEO of the Culture Lab Foundation

Tabletochki

Tabletochki is the largest Ukrainian nonprofit helping children with cancer. Since 2011 Tabletochki has been changing the field of pediatric oncology in Ukraine, improving the quality of treatment for children.

Tech to the Rescue matched Tabletochki with volunteers from Google who provided support on creating an advertising strategy, launching online marketing campaigns, and setting up Google Analytics.

Monthly, Tabletochki assists more than 500 children, including more than 100 children who are still in Ukraine. Since the Russian invasion began, more than 40 hospitals have received the Foundation’s assistance.

UASOS

UASOS is a platform that aims to help refugees find free accommodation in Poland, Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia.

Tech to the Rescue matched a cluster of nonprofit organizations (Polish Humanitarian Action, Ukraiński Dom Foundation, Nasz Wybór Foundation, Szlachetna Paczka Foundation, and Polish Migration Forum) with ID Advisory, Clevsoft and BCG to create UASOS, which was designed to support refugees to find free accommodation in Poland, Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia, and allow individuals and institutions offer accommodation.

Since the start of the war, UASOS has found accommodation for over 4,600 displaced Ukrainian people.
