Pinterest launches “Right The Ratio” Equality Campaign

Pinterest has launched its new ‘Right the Ratio’ campaign, on the 23rd of August to honour Women’s Equality Day. The Campaign was created by Pinterest’s in-house creative team The Studio and in partnership with creative agency Grow.

The Campaign is aimed at bringing attention to the gender and diversity gaps within the tech industry.

Pinterest stated in a blog post:

“Our mission at Pinterest is to help people discover and do what they love. And whether that’s finding a new hobby or getting ready to tackle the next career move, we think it’s important to keep people informed, inspired and empowered. In fact, we were one of the first Silicon Valley companies to release a diversity report and set public diversity goals. We’ve still got work to do, but we’re committed to the belief that diversity is more than just a buzzword. As our Head of Inclusion and Diversity Candice Morgan explained in a recent Harvard Business Review article: “It’s a way to build a stronger business.”

As a creative platform, we’re always thinking about ways to support the creative community. That’s why The Studio at Pinterest is launching a new campaign to encourage creatives to overcome gender inequalities. While women make up 46% of the advertising industry, only 11% of creative directors are women.1 Our “Right the Ratio” campaign, created in partnership with Grow, encourages the next generation of women creatives to seek leadership roles, arming them with practical advice from women who have already blazed the trail.”

The campaign encourages creatives to overcome gender inequalities and delivers an experience that’s full of inspiration, advice and even mentorship to help advance more women into leading creative roles.

The Campaign spoke with seven women creatives who are leaders in the advertising industry to learn how they spark creativity, navigate their careers and amplify their voices. They shared personal anecdotes, career tips and advice for people hoping to shift the ratio. We used their insights to create content that covers tactical advice (ex: how to ask for a raise) and more general topics like leadership skills. Pinterest will also share tips for men to help them become better allies. All of the content will live on Pinterest, using a mix of Promoted Pins and Promoted Video.

One of the women featured in Right the Ratio is Cindy Gallop, Founder and CEO of MakeLoveNotPorn, and Advertising Woman of the Year in 2003. “I’m very pleased that I’m talking to Pinterest,” said Gallop. “You are utterly unique. You are a tech unicorn that has been built on women. You are a platform that women have embraced as their own in a really unique way, and within you, you contain multitudes of the female lens of creativity.”

Pinterest are also partnering with Working Not Working (WNW), a global community connecting top creative talent with thousands of companies for freelance and full-time work.

“Through Working Not Working, we’re afforded a unique perspective on the gender equality issues that exist within the creative industry,” said Adam Tompkins, Co-founder of Working Not Working. “We’re excited to partner with Pinterest on the Right the Ratio campaign to help both creatives and companies overcome systemic barriers, by giving people a way to take action right at the moment when employers are looking for great talent.”
