This International Plastic Bag Free Day, Sky Ocean Rescue is challenging shoppers to re-think their use of single-use plastic at Westfield London, with the launch of a new interactive campaign, The Ocean’s Biggest Threat.
Live on 3rd and 7th July, The Ocean’s Biggest Threat is a digital campaign from Sky Ocean Rescue and creative agency WCRS that highlights the terrifying projection that, by 2050, the plastic polluting our oceans will outweigh its fish.
The interactive campaign features a spectacularly large full motion screen in Westfield London’s Eat Street. When inactive, the screen shows the silhouette of a dark and frightening creature-like monstrosity. Accompanied by the headline “Discover the ocean’s biggest threat”, participants are invited to use their mobile phones to connect with the screen via its free wifi.
Using a clever combination of 3D technology, video and streamed data, passersby can turn their phones into virtual torches to detect what is really casting the shadow on the screen and is the biggest threat to our oceans – single-use plastic.
To encourage visitors to take action, Sky Ocean Rescue will be handing out free reusable shopping bags on 3rd July. Saying no to plastic bags and using a reusable bag shopping instead is just one simple, everyday change we can all make to help stop the ocean’s biggest threat.
Plasticus, Sky Ocean Rescue’s quarter-tonne whale made from the same amount of plastic that pollutes the ocean every second, will also be in residence in Westfield Square from 3rd to 7th July. Made from plastic bags, bottles and other single-use plastics pulled from the ocean, beach cleans and local recycling plants, Plasticus brings to life the scale of the problem facing our ocean.
