smol launches recycled aluminium refill bottles; expanding its design-led range without compromising on performance

Cleaning brand, smol, has launched its new range of refillable aluminium bottles, made from 100% recycled aluminium.

The sleek, infinitely recyclable designs are available for selected ranges, including Foaming Handwash, Multi Purpose Spray, Stain Gel, Fabric Conditioner, Foaming Bathroom Spray and Washing Up Liquid.  The launch builds on smol’s track record of packaging innovation, from pioneering plastic-free laundry packs to introducing concentrated refill formats.

In a sector still dominated by single-use plastic, smol’s new aluminium bottles-for-life are designed to look beautiful on the counter, not hidden under the sink. The 300ml Foaming Handwash comes in four colourways – pistachio, petal, honey, and slate – while the 500ml cleaning and laundry bottles feature a clean, two-tone metal aesthetic.

Speaking about the launch, Chief Creative Officer at smol, Matt Gandy, said: “Feedback from customers was that they loved our recycled plastic bottles but wanted another way to cut single-use plastic from their homes, while not compromising on aesthetics. Aluminium gives us the chance to offer  durable, refillable alternatives that look great and still have a positive impact on the planet. We’ve chosen 100% recycled aluminium, which is harder and more expensive to source, but it’s the right thing to do.”

Unlike glass, which is heavier, more fragile and unable to be recycled as many times, aluminium offers a lightweight, robust option that is easy to reuse and is endlessly recyclable. The bottles have been designed to work with smol’s existing pumps and triggers, helping to reduce unnecessary waste.

The launch cements smol’s position as a packaging innovator, building on its history of shaking up the cleaning category, from leading the charge with plastic-free cardboard laundry packs to concentrated refill formats.

“The real enemy is single-use plastic,” Gandy added. “This is one more step in reducing our reliance on it as an industry, and we’d love to see more brands move this way.”
