Report Highlights Global Progress in Company Sourcing of Cage-Free Eggs Despite Impact of Pandemic on Food Supply Chains

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, companies and producers continue to make progress on their commitments to source only eggs from hens that are cage-free by 2026 or sooner, according to Compassion in World Farming’s annual EggTrack report. According to the 2020 report – the first to expand beyond the US and Europe to include global company commitments – 134 of 210 (63%) companies tracked made progress towards meeting their cage-free commitments. Good Farm Animal Welfare Award Winners Announced by Compassion in World Farming

The prestigious annual Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards ceremony hosted by Compassion in World Farming should have taken place on 16 June at the Tower of London, but, like so many other events it was a casualty of COVID-19 and was cancelled.   Compassion, however, are still keen to recognise those companies committing to higher welfare production and sourcing, through its awards programme. Compassion in World Farming is inviting entries to its 2020 Sustainable Food and Farming Award established to recognise producers and businesses that are taking steps to produce meat, dairy and eggs in ways that protect, improve and restore wildlife and the environment. Compassion Calls for a Ban on Farrowing Crates

The animal welfare movement is uniting and calling for a total ban on the use of cages for all farm animals across Europe.
