Tesco becomes first major UK retailer to ban plastic wet-wipes

A new move to scrap all baby wipes containing plastic was made by Tesco from March 14.   The supermarket, which is the UK’s biggest seller of baby wipes, will no longer sell branded baby wipes containing plastic.  As Tesco stopped using plastic in its own label baby wipes two years ago the entire range will now be plastic-free.   The move is significant as Tesco sells more than 75 million packs or 4.8 billion individual baby wipes each year.    It’s not just baby wipes that have been reformulated by the…

Tesco has now removed more than one and a half billion pieces of plastic from its UK business since it launched its 4Rs – Remove, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle – packaging strategy. Tesco becomes UK’s first supermarket to join defibrillator network that could save lives

Tesco has become the UK’s first supermarket to begin registering its 2190 defibrillators to a new national database that could improve cardiac arrest survival rates in the UK. It is the biggest single addition of defibrillators to the database so far. The database, called The Circuit: The National Defibrillator Network, aims to map all public access defibrillators, allowing ambulance services to direct bystanders to the nearest registered defibrillator if they see somebody having a cardiac arrest. Soft plastics collected at Tesco to become bin liners in new recycling solution.

A new partnership between Tesco and packaging manufacturer, Berry Global is now recycling soft plastic collected from customers at Tesco stores. Tesco has rapidly scaled up the amount of soft plastic collection points and now collects plastic from customers for recycling in over 900 stores.
