Tesco donates almost £250,000 to mark Pride festival

Tesco will donate almost a quarter of a million pounds to LGBTQ+ charities to celebrate this year’s Pride festival and support the LGBTQ+ community.

As a longstanding supporter of Pride, Tesco was last year’s headline sponsor for London Pride and supported 42 other events across the UK.

Andrew Yaxley, Chief Product Officer and Exec Sponsor of LGBTQ+ at Tesco, said: “I am delighted that through these donations we are able to support three very deserving charities, who in turn help thousands of individuals in the LGBTQ+ community every year. We all need to work together to help secure a safe, equal future for LGBTQ+ people.”

Although this year’s Pride events have had to be cancelled, Tesco remains committed to raising awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and campaigns and marking the occasion for colleagues and customers.

Tesco will be making donations of £80,000 each to three different LGBTQ+ charities:
Switchboard – a helpline service offering support and advice to the LGBTQ+ community
Mermaids – who offer support to gender-diverse young people and their families; and
The Albert Kennedy Trust – helping young LGBTQ+ people who are homeless or living in hostile conditions

Tesco is committed to creating an inclusive workplace, which celebrates the diversity of our colleagues and customers.

Tesco is a member of Stonewall Global Diversity Champions Programme and the Open for Business coalition to support LGBTQ+ inclusion around the world and has an extensive LGBTQ+ network across Europe.
