The charity is dedicated to making life-changing breakthroughs in dementia research, but it can only do this with the help of its dedicated supporters.
As one of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s longest serving partners, funds raised by The Perfume Shop have played a crucial role in speeding up progress towards new treatments and, one day, a cure for dementia.
Since The Perfume Shop first pledged its support the UK’s leading dementia research charity in 2014, The Perfume Shop People across the UK have thrown themselves into many fundraising activities, raising impressive sums along the way. Whether taking part in an outdoor adventure or raising money in-store, they have approached every challenge with enthusiasm.
This enthusiasm remained intact even during the COVID-19 pandemic, when stores across the country were forced to close. The Perfume Shop found new and creative ways to support dementia research, adapting its flagship Driving Down Dementia campaign, which saw TPS People driving from store to store to collect donations and complete sponsored dares, to comply with pandemic restrictions. They went on to raise over £90,000 during World Alzheimer’s Month in 2021.
Customers have also played a huge role in hitting the £1m milestone by supporting in-store activities and making 50p donations at checkout, which has raised over £164,000 alone.
The Perfume Shop’s fundraising milestone comes shortly after it received an Alzheimer’s Research UK supporter award for Corporate Campaign of the Year. The organisation is also a member of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Pioneer’s Circle, which recognises supporters that have made an exceptional contribution to the charity.
Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:
“Alzheimer’s Research UK is extremely grateful to The Perfume Shop for raising an incredible £1 million for life-changing dementia research.
“From cycling challenges to store pledges and the sale of personalised ribbons, The Perfume Shop colleagues have proven themselves to be among our most passionate and enthusiastic supporters.
“They have helped drive progress in research in the most difficult of circumstances, raising a fantastic £125,000 in 2021 despite being forced to close stores due to COVID-19.
“Thank you to everyone at The Perfume Shop for all your invaluable work over the last eight years, and here’s to the next million!”
Gill Smith at The Perfume Shop, said:
“We’ve worked with the team at Alzheimer’s Research UK for eight years and are so pleased to have hit this £1m donation milestone during what is the charity’s, and our, 30th anniversary year.”
She continues: “Since 2014, The Perfume Shop colleagues across our head office, warehouses and stores have supported ARUK with numerous fundraising events and volunteer days, to collectively get to this £1m total. It’s been a great team effort and we look forward to continuing our support for ARUK into 2023.”
