Thirsty for Change: Promoting a Gender-Responsive Approach to Achieve Water Security

On 13-14 May, UNESCO is organizing an International Water Conference at its Headquarters with the theme “Leveraging Intersectorality for Sustainable Water Security and Peace”.

Thematic panels on the links between water and UNESCO’s fields of competence will take place throughout these two days, including a panel dedicated to the promotion of gender equality, entitled “Thirsty for Change: Promoting a Gender-Responsive Approach to Achieve Water Security”.

Scheduled to take place on 13 May, from 3.30 to 5.00 pm, this panel will facilitate an interdisciplinary discussion on advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in the water sector to achieve the 2030 Agenda through evidence-based gender-transformative water policies and management.

Ms Saniye Gülser Corat, UNESCO’s Director for Gender Equality, will chair this panel and provide insights on emerging challenges and UNESCO’s role in the area of water and gender equality.
