Big Give’s Green Match Fund, the UK’s largest environmental match funding campaign, has raised a record-breaking £8.1 million in 2025, marking a pivotal year for the campaign and the charities it supports. A total of 307 environmental organisations – including Surfers Against Sewage, Rewilding Britain, and Cool Earth Action – received vital funding through a week-long public donation campaign, bolstered by match funding from a coalition of philanthropic partners.
The campaign launched on World Earth Day, 22nd April, with a special event at London’s iconic Wilton’s Music Hall, the oldest music hall in the world, unveiling Big Give’s bold new vision for 2026. From next year, the Green Match Fund will rebrand as Earth Raise, a bold new name for what will be a new chapter in environmental giving.
Coinciding with the rebrand, Big Give aims to launch Earth Raise Live in April 2026, a landmark cultural event blending live music, art, and environmental activism. The first of its kind in the UK, Earth Raise Live will unite artists, comedians, musicians, and environmental leaders to inspire millions and raise millions for frontline environmental charities through a turbocharged match funding campaign. Becoming the annual, defining moment for environmental fundraising.
Big Give is now calling on brand champions, sponsors, and media partners to help bring Earth Raise Live to life. Philanthropic supporters are also invited to join the movement and fund the charities working to protect and preserve our planet.
A record year of impact
The 2025 Green Match Fund campaign ran from the 22nd to 29th April 2025, coinciding with World Earth Day. Thanks to the public’s generosity and the support of Big Give’s funding Champions, including the Reed Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, AKO Foundation, OVO Foundation and individual donors, the campaign raised £3.8 million in match funds and unlocked unprecedented public support, receiving over 36,000 donations.
Since its launch in 2021, the Green Match Fund has now raised over £23 million, growing by, on average, around 50% year on year. As the world continues to face escalating environmental crises, from the alarming rise in global temperatures to the unprecedented loss of biodiversity, Big Give is committed to empowering charities working on the front lines of these issues. Partnering once again with the Environmental Funders Network, the campaign ensures that funds are strategically directed to charities delivering maximum environmental impact – from combating climate change and reducing waste, to protecting wildlife and promoting sustainability, the campaign supports organisations making a tangible difference in the UK and worldwide.
James Reed CBE, Chair of the Trustees of Big Give and CEO of REED, said: “Having smashed through the record-breaking £8m mark, we have bold ambitions to make the campaign, under its new Earth Raise name, the single biggest environmental fundraising campaign on the planet for the planet. Our goal is that Earth Raise Live will become the defining event for environmental fundraising, and we’re looking for partners who want to work with us to make that happen, particularly corporate sponsors.
The amazingly generous public and our superb Champion donors have shown once again that people really want to get behind and support all the crucial charities that are fighting to protect Planet Earth. We are confident that Earth Raise will continue to grow and has the potential become a global phenomenon.”
Sam Sutaria, CEO, WaterBear, said: “WaterBear exists to tell the stories that matter and nothing matters more right now than protecting our planet. We’re thrilled to partner with Big Give on Earth Raise, an initiative that turns storytelling into tangible action. Through Earth Raise Live, we have a powerful opportunity to reach new audiences, inspire meaningful change, and celebrate the frontline organisations working for a better future.”
Philip King, Founder, Other Voices, said: “At Other Voices, we believe in the power of music to move hearts and minds. Earth Raise Live is a rare and brilliant chance to bring artists, audiences and activists together for a shared cause – our planet. We’re proud to support this moment where creativity meets action, and we can’t wait to help turn up the volume on environmental giving.”
Nick Gardner, Executive Director, Environmental Funders Network, said: “Since the launch of the Green Match Fund, we’ve seen the incredible impact of strategic match funding in the environmental sector. It not only boosts income for vital charities, but also builds awareness and community support. With Earth Raise, Big Give is taking this to the next level, blending ambition, creativity, and serious funding power to help tackle the environmental challenges of our time.”
