Womenswear fashion rental launches at John Lewis

The UK buys more clothes per person than any other country in Europe, and the wider fashion industry accounts for 8-10% of annual global carbon emissions. As a retailer, we need to provide our consumers with a more sustainable solution. This is why John Lewis Fashion Rental was created.

John Lewis Fashion Rental is a new platform that will be the home of our womenswear rental collection, launching 3rd October powered by HURR, an established womenswear rental brand. Hosting over 25 incredibly stylish brands from Olivia Rubin, O Pioneers, & Other Stories and Seraphina with rental prices starting from £20.

We’ve carefully curated the collection of new designer brands as well as existing John Lewis favourites from brands like Whistles and Somerset by Alice Temperley alongside exclusive collaborations such as the upcoming Erica Davies + John Lewis collection. Customers will be able to browse the collection at johnlewis.com/fashionrental, choosing to rent a garment for 4, 8,10 or 20 days with next day delivery if needed. Once the items have been chosen, the products will be posted directly to the address and included will be a pre-paid postage label for returns. The items will be dry cleaned by HURR (using Oxwash responsible laundry services) and ready to be rented again.

John Lewis Commercial Director, Kathleen Mitchell, says, “Our new rental platform introduces new and exciting designers to our customers, encouraging them to support a more sustainable way to shop. Offering a stylish edit of new brands mixed with exclusive products from our own collections, this a truly unique proposition that cannot be found by any other high street retailer.

Shopping more sustainably shouldn’t have to cost the earth, that’s why supporting innovative partnerships can truly make a difference and help change consumer behaviours.”

HURR CEO Victoria Prew, comments: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of John Lewis Fashion Rental, a truly circular model that will attract the next-generation customer. We are excited to learn, test and build a valuable rental business in collaboration with the forward thinking innovation teams at John Lewis.”

As the original purpose-led brand, sustainability is deeply rooted in our DNA. That’s why we’re always looking for new innovative initiatives and solutions to support a more sustainable life.
