Yorkshire Building Society’s £1 million pledge to help people into FareShare’s employability schemes and out of financial hardship

Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) has announced FareShare as its Charity Partner for the next two years, pledging £1 million to support an employability programme that will help 2,500 people enter the world of work.

The aftermath of the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis have exacerbated the scale of financial hardship and food insecurity in the UK.

  • More than 14 million people across the UK are living in relative poverty.1
  • One in four people of working age are currently out of work and unemployment levels are expected to continue to rise.2

But many of those desperately seeking work face a whole host of barriers to gaining and sustaining employment, including physical and mental health challenges and a lack of basic skills and experience.

YBS’s partnership with FareShare aims to raise £1 million to fund our Building Skills for the Future programme. The money raised will help deliver seven employability programmes to support and equip people in preparation for employment, and a further two community outreach programmes offering free, face to face sessions and workshops to help people overcome financial hardship through education and building of important skills.

Through these employability and outreach programmes, YBS and FareShare can make a real difference to communities across the UK. Together, we will empower people with the skills and knowledge they need to overcome financial hardship and build their own brighter future.
