To help parents and guardians provide homebound students meaningful educational experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, Discovery Education has announced the launch of Daily DE. As the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms, the new Daily DE from Discovery Education provides a suite of no-cost activities and resources for students and families to help continue learning while schools are closed. Access the K-12 Daily DE resources here.
Daily DE complements Discovery Education’s comprehensive response to educators supporting the continuity of learning during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Expanding upon this commitment, Daily DE serves as one-stop shop for parents and guardians to discover a collection of dynamic resources to engage and support their children. The themed ‘grab & go’ daily activities at Daily DE spotlight the exciting content created by like-minded organizations dedicated to empowering learners of all ages with real-world resources that inspire innovation. On Daily DE, families can dive into Virtual Field Trips from partners like the American Heart Association and the NFL, and USC Shoah Foundation, resources from the Tiger Woods Foundation, student challenges from TCS, Siemens, and 3M, along with a range of other dynamic activities that help students continue learning outside the classroom.
“As a global company serving 45 million students across 140 countries, Discovery Education is thrilled to serve as a resource for parents, caregivers, and families alike,” said Lori McFarling, President of Corporate Education Partnerships at Discovery Education. “We understand the challenges facing schools and families during this time of crisis and recognize that empowering guardians with tools to complement classroom instruction is a key part of the learning continuity equation.”
Discovery Education’s Daily DE is supported by an array of partners and leading organizations, such as:
“Providing parents and families standards-aligned educational materials and activities that are fun and engaging is essential to help students grow to their full potential, now during the health crisis and always,” said Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Jodi Grant. “The Afterschool Alliance is thrilled to share Daily DE, an important resource that can support students and families, and keep kids’ minds active, as we all navigate disrupted schedules and learning.”
“It is important for children to be active and stay busy to reduce the stress and anxiety that can arise from being disconnected from friends and school,” said Eduardo Sanchez, M.D., MPH, the American Heart Association’s Chief Medical Officer for Prevention. “Virtual solutions, such as the NFL PLAY 60 Huddle Up and Get Moving! Virtual Field Trip, can help to fill the indoor days ahead. It is more important than ever to maintain a heart-healthy lifestyle and physical activity to support learning outside the classroom and to keep sedentary habits from taking root.”
“Learning outside the classroom includes preparing the students of today for the careers and colleges of tomorrow,” said Dr. Katherine Bihr, Vice President of Programs and Education at the Tiger Woods Foundation. “As part of Discovery Education’s Daily DE, TGR EDU: Explore resources are accessible to families to empower students, including during the health pandemic. In partnership with Discovery Education, we are proud to support educational continuity.”
“Discovery Education’s no-cost school activities and resources are a gift to teachers and parents who want to continue to advance education while schools are physically closed,” said Dr. Claudia Ramirez Wiedeman, Director of Education, USC Shoah Foundation. “We have committed to featuring no-cost resources from Teaching with Testimony, which draws upon our vast library of audiovisual testimony from survivors and witnesses of genocides to empower students to find their voices and take action for a better future.”
