HSBC commits its support to the Wimbledon Foundation to help further its COVID-19 response

HSBC has announced its continued support for the Wimbledon Foundation and its work to support those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the absence of the traditional Ticket Resale Scheme at The Championships this year.

HSBC has supported the Ticket Resale Scheme since 2008, matching the funds raised from resold tickets, which has supported local causes in an extensive programme of community and charitable activities administered by the Wimbledon Foundation, the official charity of The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) and The Championships. During the course of the partnership, Ticket Resale has raised £3.6m, including £1.78m from HSBC.

While The Championships has been approved as part of the Government’s Events Research Programme, with capacity beginning at 50% and rising to full capacity for Finals weekend, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has required the Ticket Resale Scheme to be paused for 2021. However, HSBC has taken the decision to continue its financial support nonetheless, and its donation will ensure that many of the charities which benefit from the Ticket Resale Scheme – such as Give It Your Max, The Dan Maskell Trust and Tennis First – will still receive much needed funding following this unprecedented year.

HSBC UK Chief Executive, Ian Stuart said:
“HSBC’s commitment to help support local communities is at the heart of all of our brand partnerships around the world.  We are proud of our long-term commitment to the Wimbledon Foundation, and even though this year’s Championships may feel a little different, we are delighted that our support for the Foundation remains a constant.

“Over the past year we have taken action to support vulnerable people impacted by coronavirus. Charities across the UK have also felt the effects of the pandemic, and together with the Foundation, we want to help them continue the important and powerful work they do to support their local communities now and in the future.”

AELTC Chairman Ian Hewitt said:
“We are incredibly grateful for HSBC’s continued commitment to the Wimbledon Foundation, especially in these difficult times. The Ticket Resale Scheme, proudly supported by HSBC since 2008, is a hugely popular part of The Championships experience each year. While the Ticket Resale Scheme was necessarily paused for this year, we are thrilled that the many charitable organisations who desperately need support will still benefit thanks to the generosity and loyalty of HSBC.”
