Ocean and Vodafone unveil Marble Arch advertising sleeve

Ocean has unveiled a new purpose built advertising sleeve surrounding London’s iconic Marble Arch as extensive conservation works on the monument get underway.

Revenue generated by the out of home advertising wrap will help to support English Heritage’s restoration of the historic landmark.

Ocean was awarded planning consent to erect a purpose built advertising cover earlier this year. The installation will be in situ for the period of the works which are due to be completed by late 2024.

Vodafone, whose network has been awarded Best in London by European network testing agency NET CHECK, celebrates the accolade by becoming the first brand to advertise on the sleeve.

The Vodafone activation which runs throughout August has been sympathetically created and designed in keeping with the iconic landmark and surrounding area.

Maria Koutsoudakis, Vodafone’s UK head of brand, said: “We are incredibly excited to be the first brand to take an OOH spot on the new Marble Arch advertising sleeve to recognise our reliable, award-winning network being named ‘Best in London’. This unique opportunity at Marble Arch is the perfect way to celebrate, allowing us to give back to London by playing a part in supporting the conservation of one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.”

Ocean Outdoor UK CEO, Phil Hall said: “This has been one of the most ambitious installations Ocean has ever undertaken and to get it right required a monumental collaboration from all the partners involved. Ocean is privileged to be able to offer this unique advertising opportunity and I can’t think of a better launch partner than Vodafone to mark its Best in London award.”

The OOH display, which comprises six arches and four panels in total and faces traffic and pedestrians on either side of the intersection, is available to advertisers on a solus basis until the end of 2024.

The arch itself is surrounded by a low level protective hoarding explaining why the project is important and inviting public donations.

Ocean’s planning consent allows brands to leverage a prime OOH location which is within striking distance of luxury hotels and residences and premium retail destinations. Marble Arch sits on an island at the intersection of Park Lane and Oxford Street, overlooking Hyde Park which hosts large scale events throughout the year.

Commenting on the restoration, Rob Woodside, estates director at English Heritage, said: “Marble Arch is a great London landmark and we are giving it the tender loving care it deserves. This will be a major conservation project, taking well over a year, and whilst we know many Londoners and tourists will miss the arch whilst it is under a scaffold, we cannot wait to unveil it next year and reveal the arch in all its former glory.”
