As part of National Kidney Month, Pollo Tropical® is partnering with the National Kidney Foundation in an awareness and fundraising campaign. From March 4 through March 17, the brand will donate $1 for every pie slice purchased to the National Kidney Foundation of Florida. Guests can choose from Key Lime Pie, Cheesecake or Pecan Pie, through orders placed at the restaurant, placed online for pick up, or for the brand’s convenient new delivery option. Additionally, Pollo Tropical will promote National Kidney Month at all participating restaurants, and also partner with the Foundation’s Florida Kidney Walk events taking place March 17 in South Florida and March 24 in Southwest Florida.
While Pollo Tropical has a strong history of community involvement and fundraising, the National Kidney Foundation holds a special place to the brand due to its personal connection with Richard Stockinger, CEO and President of Fiesta Restaurant Group (parent company of Pollo Tropical).
“This is a life-saving opportunity for people. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for early detection and my sister’s kidney donation,” explained Stockinger. “I’m living proof that transplantation can give you a normal life, and I want people to know they can give that same gift of life to someone by becoming a donor. Our additional goal to drive awareness about early testing, because kidney disease can affect anyone.”
In the United States, 30 million adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease, and most aren’t aware of it. One in three adults in America are at risk for chronic kidney disease. Risk factors for kidney disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and family history. People of African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, or Pacific Islander descent are at increased risk for developing the disease. Hispanics are nearly 1.5 times more likely than non-Hispanics to develop end stage renal disease (kidney failure).
“The Kidney Foundation of Florida is proud to have Pollo Tropical as a new partner in furthering our initiatives during National Kidney Month and beyond,” said Savanna Lanza, CEO of the Kidney Foundation of Florida. “The popularity of Pollo Tropical opens up many new windows for us to communicate the Foundation’s key messages in the battle against kidney disease.”
