PRCA – ‘Professional lobbyists must sign up to external Codes of Conduct’

The PRCA Public Affairs Board Executive Committee has re-issued a call for all lobbying organisations to sign up to external Codes Of Conduct, and to declare their clients, to protect and strengthen public confidence in lobbying.

Responding to newspaper reports over the weekend about a lobbying agency that is not a PRCA member and does not subscribe to any external Code, a PRCA spokesman commented:

“Lobbying is a democratic right and, when carried out professionally, improves the decision-making process. Adherence to an externally-enforced Code of Conduct and the declaration of all clients are vital requirements for improving public confidence in our industry’s work. We would urge the small minority of lobbyists who are not regulated to change course, and join the mainstream.”

The Public Affairs Register is a core tenet of the Public Affairs Board’s self-regulatory regime and is updated quarterly to provide complete transparency. All organisations on the Register adhere to the PRCA Public Affairs Code, which ensures lobbyists discharge their duties ethically. Find out more.
