Amnesty Media Awards 2019 winners announced

The winners of Amnesty International UK’s prestigious Media Awards 2019 have been announced at a ceremony in London. The Guardian took home Amnesty’s Impact Award for its Windrush Scandal campaign, and imprisoned Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were recognised for their investigation into the massacre of Rohingya people in Inn Din state in Myanmar. Channel 4 News, The Mail on Sunday and BBC Radio 4 were also winners at this evening’s awards. Women fight back as oppressive and sexist policies dominate 2018 – Amnesty annual review

Some of the most disadvantaged women in the world are at risk of being further marginalised due to oppressive and sexist policies, Amnesty International warned today as it launched its annual review on the state of global human rights. Amnesty International withdraws human rights award from Aung San Suu Kyi

Amnesty International has announced that it has withdrawn its highest honour, the Ambassador of Conscience Award, from Aung San Suu Kyi, in light of the Myanmar leader’s shameful betrayal of the values she once stood for.
