More than one thousand Co-op food stores are at the fore of the community retailer’s move to ditch single-use plastics following the roll-out of compostable carrier bags. Homeless charity accommodated by the Co-op

A charity working to tackle homelessness has launched its first department store this week in Rochdale after finding a home with the Co-op. Emmaus – which was established over 25 years ago – has been offered the 50,000 sq. ft. space rent free by the Co-op in a move designed to give a new lease of life to an unused building, while enabling the charity to further its work to overcome homelessness and social exclusion. More than 1,000 Co-op food stores are at the forefront of the retailer’s moves to ditch single-use plastics, with the roll-out of new compostable carriers from last week. Co-op campaign highlights a bright future for modern slavery victims

The Co-op, which is helping to create hundreds of jobs for the victims of modern slavery, has launched an advertising campaign to raise awareness of the wicked crime that many believed had been consigned to the history books. Last year the Co-op, in partnership with the charity City Hearts, launched the innovative Bright Future programme, which provides employment for those rescued from slavery.
