Co-op bans single-use plastics and unveils compostable carrier bags

The Co-op announced an end to single-use plastic. It will see around 60 million plastic carrier bags removed in a phased rollout and replaced with an environmentally-friendly alternative. Firms in hospitality, hairdressing and social care have been urged to offer jobs to the victims of modern slavery. Businesses across various sectors of the economy have followed the lead set by the Co-op and signed up to the innovative Bright Future programme that provides employment for those rescued from slavery. Scouts and Guides across the UK are enjoying a funding boost after Co-op members generated more than £2m in less than two years.
