Co-op bans single-use plastics and unveils compostable carrier bags

The Co-op announced an end to single-use plastic. It will see around 60 million plastic carrier bags removed in a phased rollout and replaced with an environmentally-friendly alternative. People left lonely and isolated following bereavement will be able to make new friends and beat loneliness thanks to a new scheme launched across the UK. More firms urged to offer jobs to victims of modern slavery

Firms in hospitality, hairdressing and social care have been urged to offer jobs to the victims of modern slavery. Businesses across various sectors of the economy have followed the lead set by the Co-op and signed up to the innovative Bright Future programme that provides employment for those rescued from slavery. Co-op £2m funding boost for Scouts and Guides

Scouts and Guides across the UK are enjoying a funding boost after Co-op members generated more than £2m in less than two years. Since the Co-op’s local community fund was launched in September 2016, 900 Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs and nearly 400 Guide, Brownie and Rainbow units in the UK have received a total of £2,100,000.
