Sainsbury’s becomes first retailer to remove all black plastic from chilled ready meals

Sainsbury’s has announced that it will be the first retailer to replace black plastic trays from chilled ready meals, with a recyclable alternative, as it works towards meeting its goal of reducing, reusing, replacing and recycling more plastic. Launched in all stores nationwide this week across Sainsbury’s most popular ready meals, the retailer is replacing the black pigment material previously used for ready meal trays with natural CPET, a form of recyclable plastic*. Sainsbury’s removes plastic bags for fruit and veg and launches reusable produce bags trial

Sainsbury’s has launched a trial at its Lincoln and Kidlington superstores which removes plastic produce bags for loose fruit and veg. This is the first step towards reaching the company’s commitment to removing the bags from stores entirely by September, cutting a further 1,284 tonnes of plastic this year. Sainsbury’s unveils UK’s first meat-free butchers

The UK’s first Meat-Free Butchers will be opening its doors to the public on Friday 21st June. Sainsbury’s launches new recycling scheme in Glasgow

Sainsbury’s has launched a Reverse Vending Recycling trial at its Braehead Superstore in Glasgow, allowing customers to return plastic bottles and drinks cans in exchange for money off their shopping. Braehead becomes the first Sainsbury’s store in Scotland, and only the third in the UK, to offer this service to customers.
