Sainsbury’s has announced that it will be the first retailer to replace black plastic trays from chilled ready meals, with a recyclable alternative, as it works towards meeting its goal of reducing, reusing, replacing and recycling more plastic. Waitrose launches world’s first home compostable ready meal packaging as the retailer’s removal of black plastics heats up

Waitrose & Partners is launching the world’s first home compostable ready meal packaging as it moves nearly nine million products out of black plastic. The pioneering packaging will initially replace many of the retailer’s Italian ready meal trays, saving 158 tonnes of black plastic. Unilever Pioneers Solution That Enables Black Plastic Bottles To Be Recycled

Unilever has pioneered the use of a new detectable black pigment for its High Density Polyethelyne (HDPE) bottles for its leading brands, TRESemmé and Lynx, so they can be detected by recycling plant scanners and sorted for recycling. This means that around a further 2,500 tonnes of plastic bottles could now potentially be sorted and sent for recycling each year – equivalent to the weight of 200 London buses, or 1,250 family-sized cars.
