A ground-breaking move by Tesco to change the packaging of its own label hard cheeses will save 260 tonnes of plastic each year. The saving – equal in weight to 20 double decker buses – has been made by switching from the traditional square block shape to oblong packaging and also by removing the current re-sealable zip. Tesco has worked in partnership with its suppliers to cut 200,000 tonnes of food waste from their combined operations, the supermarket has revealed. This comes as Tesco published its own food waste data for the eighth year and challenges other retailers and food companies to do the same. Carton recycling trial set for Tesco stores

Tesco, Kellogg and the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE UK) have announced a five month trial to collect cartons at in-store recycling points. Carton recycling points will be introduced into eleven Tesco stores in England and Wales to test how prepared customers are to return the packaging to stores for recycling. Tesco renews £2.5bn committed facility establishing link to sustainability targets

Tesco has announced that it has established a £2.5bn revolving credit facility, replacing Tesco’s existing £3bn committed facilities. The facility uses Risk Free Rates and interest is linked to the achievement of three ambitious environmental targets.
