A new study, the Food Waste Race, undertaken by Just Eat and environmental charity Hubbub and published ahead of Food Waste Action Week, has found that chips are the most wasted takeaway food. Asda is the first UK retailer to introduce Apeel’s plant-based protection to increase shelf life and help reduce food waste

Asda is set to begin a significant new programme in partnership with Apeel Sciences, which will introduce Citrus fruits and Avocados with plant-based protection in c150 stores, to increase shelf life and prevent food waste. Princes Group reports food waste progress

International food and drink group, Princes, has published food waste data for its global operations, reporting that just 1.6% of total food handled by the business was wasted in the year to March 2021. Globally, Princes reduced overall food waste by 12.84% since last year, and 4% across the Group’s UK sites. Of the 69,456 tonnes of food waste generated across Princes’ global operations, 20,636 tonnes were sent to anaerobic digestion plants to be converted to energy, while 45,726 tonnes were used for animal feed. Waitrose report UK households unaware of the impact their food waste has on the planet

UK adults estimate that almost a third of what they buy ends up in the bin despite three in four making attempts to get more use out of the products that end up in their fridges and cupboards.
