Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine continues to disproportionately affect women and girls. Women in Ukraine face higher rates of poverty, displacement, and gender-based violence, and are the majority in need of humanitarian assistance. Recent OECD data shows that, while official development assistance to Ukraine jumped from USD 1.3 billion in 2021 to USD 18.9 billion the following year, 90 per cent—or USD 17.1 billion—of this funding did not include any gender equality objectives. Over the next few months, UNESCO will support over 40 local Ukrainian media with energy equipment and provide guidance on viable and sustainable business models and on audience engagement. Six Journalists Solidarity Centers will continue to provide safety training, psychological support and legal assistance to journalists. Unilever has announced it will invest €20million in a new production facility in the Kyiv region of Ukraine, to support our growing business and demonstrate our long-term commitment to the country. Construction will start this year, with the factory expected to open in 2024. Royal Bank of Scotland has set up a dedicated donation distribution hub for Ukrainian refugees arriving in the capital.
