Vattenfall´s strategy of enabling fossil free living within one generation has a full value-chain perspective. This means that Vattenfall not only works purposefully to reduce its own footprint, but also the footprint of suppliers and customers. As an important step towards a fossil free future, Vattenfall has for 2030 set an intensity target of 50% on supply chain emissions from goods and services, covering all supplier tiers. “Along with the great progress we have made in the last few years with regards to decarbonising our own operations, the relative impact…

SAS, Vattenfall, Shell and LanzaTech to explore synthetic sustainable aviation fuel production
Vattenfall, SAS, Shell and LanzaTech will together investigate the production of the world’s first synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using the LanzaJet[TM] “Alcohol to Jet” technology on a large scale in Sweden. Instead of using virgin fossil material in the production process, the synthetic SAF will be produced from fossil free electricity and recycled carbon dioxide from district heating. The goal is that a new production facility will produce up to 50,000 tonnes of synthetic SAF annually, provided that an investment decision is made at a later stage. The synthetic…

Vattenfall has set ambitious targets in how to deal with wind turbine blades at end of life. An immediate commitment to a landfill ban on decommissioned wind turbine blades has been made. The next decade there will be an intense work increasing the recycling rate of wind blade components. Vattenfall’s ambition is to enable a fossil-free living within one generation and one important element to deliver on this is a significant growth in wind energy. To ensure this is done in a sustainable way, Vattenfall has a high focus on reducing environmental impacts…

Vattenfall has decided to further increase its emission reduction targets for 2030 and beyond, aiming to reach net zero by 2040. The new targets are set to help keep the global warming at a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celsius and have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, SBTi, providing external validation in line with the latest climate science research. Vattenfall is now one of the few leading energy companies that have taken this critical step. In October 2019,Vattenfall’s climate targets were approved by the SBTi to be in…
Read MoreVattenfall and AstaReal sign comprehensive energy contract: Excess heat from algae cultivation will heat households in Gustavsberg
Vattenfall and AstaReal are expanding their cooperation through a comprehensive energy contract to recover excess heat from AstaReal’s algae cultivation. The idea is to be able to meet the heating requirements corresponding to 2,500 new apartments in Gustavsberg near Stockholm through the new partnership. “AstaReal’s production process is energy-intensive and requires both electricity and cooling. The excess heat that arises will be available for use for heating homes and premises. From spring 2022, Gustavsberg residents will have more than 20 percent of their heating requirements covered through this solution,” says…
