Triodos Bank UK recognised with Financial Leadership award from the REA

Triodos Bank UK has won the ‘Financial Leadership’ category at this year’s British Renewable Energy Awards, ran by the Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA).

The British Renewable Energy Awards is a prestigious event in the UK’s renewable energy industry calendar; recognising and celebrating the achievements of companies and individuals working in renewables or clean technology over the past year.

The ‘Financial Leadership’ category specifically looks at a financial product that has accelerated the deployment of renewables in the UK during past year.

Triodos Bank UK was recognised for its work in championing the net zero transition by providing finance to support a nationwide rollout of EV charge points at supermarkets, help launch the UK’s first intercity, all-electric coach service, and fund stores selling individual e-transport, such as e-bikes and e-mopeds.

Philip Bazin, who leads the environment team at Triodos Bank UK, commented: “As well as our continued lending to sustainable energy projects, 2020 was a year of firsts for us in the sustainable transport sector. We entered this year’s REA awards to highlight our willingness to adapt our products and services to support new and evolving business models, in the hope that other financial institutions will follow suit. We’re delighted to have received this Financial Leadership Award in recognition of our support for the energy transition.”

The British Renewable Energy Awards judges commented: “Triodos are very brave and supportive investors. Their first-of-a-kind investments are exemplary, and they are a real role model on a number of different fronts.”

The bank also continues to provide lending and specialist advice to sustainable energy generation projects and community-owned renewables. For the fifth year running, Triodos Bank N.V. was named the most active lead arranger globally for financing renewable energy projects by Clean Energy Pipeline.

Also recognised at the industry awards was Ferry Farm Community Solar, which partnered with Triodos Bank on a successful crowdfunding bond raise in November 2020. The organisation was highly commended in the ‘Community’ category.
