Unilever, Tesco and The Trussell Trust work together to raise awareness and help tackle food poverty.

Unilever is partnering with Tesco and The Trussell Trust to help raise awareness of food poverty and to feed those in need this winter.

Tesco shoppers who buy selected Hellmann’s, Knorr and Colman’s products will see 5p from each product go to The Trussell Trust, with a guaranteed total donation of £200,000 for this fantastic charity. This will help The Trussell Trust to respond to an estimated 13% increase in the demand for emergency food supplies in the UK over the last year. Hellmann’s, Knorr and Colman’s, will distinguish their 20 limited edition packs with the logo ‘Help Fight UK Hunger’, enabling shoppers to clearly identify the products they can buy to make a real difference to those in need.

Donations will go to The Trussell Trust which works with local communities to support a large network of foodbanks, by providing emergency food parcels to some of the thirteen million people living below the poverty line in the UK. Focused on breaking the cycle of poverty and addressing some of its underlying causes, the charity also provides emotional support, fuel vouchers, cooking and nutrition classes, meal budgeting courses and financial support to those in need.

Recent data from The Trussell Trust suggests there is a rising demand for food aid, with 586,907 three day emergency food supplies being delivered to people in crisis between 1st April and 20th September 2017.

Sebastian Munden, EVP and General Manager at Unilever UK & Ireland, said: “We are proud to be working with Tesco and The Trussell Trust to help tackle the pressing issue of food poverty across the UK. Not only will the partnership raise awareness of a vitally important national issue, it also supports our Sustainable Living Plan where we are actively working to address food waste and hunger. We hope that the money raised through shoppers buying our Colman’s, Hellmann’s and Knorr products will make a difference to people in need.”

Mark Ward, Interim CEO of The Trussell Trust, says: “We’re thrilled to be working with Unilever and its leading brands as their support for our network and for our regional distribution centre at Coventry will help foodbanks across the UK, not only to stop people going hungry during a crisis, but also to offer people the tools to find long term solutions to prevent such a crisis having the same impact in the future.”

Alec Brown, Head of UK Stakeholder Communications, said: “We’re delighted to support Unilever and The Trussell Trust with this activity. At Tesco, we want to make a positive difference in the local communities we serve and have worked with The Trussell Trust since 2012 to help feed people in need. We hope customers get behind this campaign and give a little help to those who need it most.”

The campaign runs from the 15th November until the 5th December across Tesco stores in the UK. Simply buy any of the 20 selected Hellmann’s, Colman’s and Knorr products and Unilever will make a 5p donation per pack to The Trussell Trust on your behalf.
