Tesco has now removed more than two billion pieces of plastic from its UK business since the launch of its 4Rs – Remove, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle – packaging strategy in 2019. In the last 12 months alone, 500 million pieces of unnecessary plastic have been identified and removed. Sainsbury’s goes trayless on whole chickens, saving over 10 million pieces of plastic a year

Sainsbury’s has announced that its by Sainsbury’s whole chicken range is now trayless, after the retailer removed single-use plastic trays from its packaging. Using a minimum of 50% less plastic, the change is estimated to save 140 tonnes of plastic annually. The trayless products are available in all stores across the UK and online, helping to reduce the amount of single-use plastic customers have to dispose of at home. Tesco cuts plastic from bakery favourites and returns to selling bread loose

Launching paper packaging for Finish with 75% less plastic: contributing to our ambition of halving the amount of virgin plastic in packaging by 2030

Reckitt are launching paper-based packaging for Finish, a first for automatic dishwashing products, that will reduce plastic by 75% in its stand-up pouch. Once fully rolled out, this packaging innovation will help to eliminate more than 2,000 tonnes of plastic every year, equivalent to 50 million 1-litre bottles. Packaging for dishwasher tablets must be sealable, durable and water resistant, so using paper has traditionally been difficult.
