Channel 4’s Legal & Compliance Department Launch Third Free E-Learning Resource for Production Companies

A free interactive e-learning module focused on the duty of care of contributors has been published by Channel 4.

The broadcaster’s Legal & Compliance team have drawn up the course to offer guidance on the measures indies and producers can take to ensure the welfare of people who appear in their programme.

Journalist and presenter Anna Richardson provides the voiceover in this, the third free interactive online training course to be made available to the industry from Channel 4’s Legal & Compliance team.

Commissioners and producers have a responsibility to ensure the welfare of people who take part in television programmes, whatever the content and format of those programmes.  And this course, available as part of the 4Producers Handbook, will help programme makers improve their understanding of this very important area of production.

Anna Richardson said: “I was delighted to be asked to record the audio for Channel 4’s Duty of Care module.  The Legal & Compliance team have come up with a fun and interactive module covering an element of production that it is so important programme makers get right.  I think this module will be an incredibly useful tool to those working in the industry.”

Diana Izzard, Head Lawyer, Legal & Compliance said : “Duty of care extends to all the contributors to a programme; that means presenters, on-screen talent, crew and production staff, as well as members of the public and of course our viewers, so it was really important to us to deliver a module that is free and easily accessible to all.

“Anna has more than 20 years’ experience at the heart of broadcasting and we also know her to have an interest in mental health and wellbeing, so we were thrilled when she agreed to record the audio for our next interactive training resource.”
