CIPR signs Venice Pledge committing to responsible AI principles

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) has signed the Venice Pledge, affirming its commitment to embedding responsible artificial intelligence (AI) practices across the public relations profession.

The Venice Pledge – developed by the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management – was co-signed by the Institute and more than 20 other public relations bodies. Ratified by the Alliance’s Board of Directors, the Pledge updates its Responsible AI Guiding Principles.

The seven Responsible AI Guiding Principles provide a shared framework for the ethical, transparent, and human-centred application of AI in public relations. The Principles emphasise that AI should support, not replace, human judgment and creativity whilst ensuring accountability, fairness, and accuracy in professional practice.

The Principles cover:

  • Ethics First
  • Human-Led Governance
  • Personal and Organisational Responsibility
  • Awareness, Openness, and Transparency
  • Education and Professional Development
  • Active Global Voice
  • Human-Centred AI for the Common Good

As artificial intelligence continues to transform our profession, it’s crucial that we establish robust ethical frameworks for its use. By signing the Venice Pledge, this group of global bodies demonstrate our commitment to ensuring AI enhances rather than compromises the integrity of public relations practice. We’re dedicated to helping our members navigate these technologies effectively whilst adhering to the highest professional standards. As the leading global AI training provider for PR professionals, we’ll continue equipping our members with the skills they need whilst ensuring our profession upholds its ethical obligations to clients, employers, and society.
