CIPR’s Diversity and Inclusion Network release new guide on Disability allyship and advocacy

A new guide from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ (CIPR) Diversity and Inclusion Network is out today, exploring the role and importance of allyship, advocacy, and accomplices in dismantling barriers which exist in the PR industry.

The final instalment in a five-part series of guides is designed to enhance understanding of disability allyship and advocacy by offering practical strategies for how PR professionals can support colleagues and close the gap between industry discourse and tangible change. The guide is part of a free-to-download series of EDI essentials, covering the following topics:

  • EDI Basics
  • Inclusive Language
  • Inclusive Communications
  • Inclusive Events
  • Disability advocacy and allyship

The guides have been written by Sara Thornhurst Chart.PR, MCRIP and Vickie Cox MCIPR with input from Diversity and Inclusion Network Chair Avril Lee MCIPR and Cornelius Alexander Dip CIPR, FCIPR, Found.Chart.PR.

“Embracing diversity and fostering inclusion in our profession is a fundamental necessity. As public relations practitioners and leaders, we have a duty to understand, support, and advocate for all individuals, especially those whose voices often go unheard. This series of guides is a vital resource to creating a more equitable and inclusive industry and this final guide on Disability allyship and advocacy provides a crucial stepping stone between good intentions and positive action. Many thanks to the Diversity and Inclusion Network team for their efforts in producing these important resources, particularly to Sara and Vickie whose dedication has made this initiative possible.”
Avril Lee MCIPR, Chair of the CIPR Diversity and Inclusion Network
