Five Guys UK headlines bumper round of new members to join Zero Carbon Forum

Leading burger restaurant chain Five Guys UK is among ten new members to join Zero Carbon Forum, the leading not for profit organisation in Brewing and Hospitality that is enabling members to reach net zero at pace. 

The global chain will sit alongside more than 60 operators across Brewing and Hospitality who are pooling resources and sharing learnings to accelerate emission reduction and adapt to the impacts of climate change. All have pledged to work collaboratively, as one united force, to reach sustainability targets faster and more cost effectively than acting alone, and to reach net zero emissions by 2030 on their own operations and 2040 across their supply chain. 

Five Guys UK feature as part of a new wave of incoming members to join the forum which includes Ballie Ballerson, Drake & Morgan, ETM Group, Houston and Hawkes, Manorview Hotels & Leisure, Mission Mars, Purity Brewing Company, The Hummingbird Bakery and Tossed.    

Five Guys UK has almost 1,700 locations across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, with more than 150 restaurants in the UK. Their hand-formed burgers are renowned for their quality by using only freshly grounded beef and peanut oil. 

The forum will support Five Guys UK and its newest members in developing net zero strategies that identify initiatives and actions that will support decarbonisation operations across their outlets and supply chain. Through the forum’s measure, plan and reduce framework, the not-for-profit’s climate action plan has identified 155 initiatives across ten impact areas from energy use to food waste, packaging and ingredient sourcing that will both reduce emissions and help build resilience against climate change. 

Bob Gordon, Director of Zero Carbon Forum, said: “Building on the great work we have achieved this year, we’re thrilled that such a wide and diverse range of new members have joined the forum and pledged to make the crucial difference needed to achieve systemic change through collaboration. 

“The sector’s largest impact is in Scope 3 emissions. Transformational change is needed in the food and drink system to reduce these emissions, which makes up 70% of the sector’s carbon footprint. We are measuring and identifying hotspots and gaps, as well as making plans to address them. We are also leading through collaborative action to accelerate progress in areas such as the transition to regenerative farming, reducing the carbon impact of our menus and engaging our supply chains.”
