Gillette and Terracycle Partner to Launch the UK’s First Ever Razor National Recycling Programme

Gillette and Gillette Venus, in partnership with international recycling leader TerraCycle, announce for the first-time that all models of razors, blades and disposable razors can now be recycled thanks to the launch of a new programme. Gillette has also launched fully recyclable packs available exclusively at Tesco and will roll out nationally by the end of 2019.

The new recycling initiative which will be available to customers via the Gillette website, allows customers to recycle their used razors through a simple three step process.

  1. Enjoy a great shave from Gillette and hold on to your old blades for recycling.
  2. Visit www.gillette.co.uk/recycle, fill out your details and receive a special freepost envelope for your used blades and razors.
  3. Send your old blades, razors and/or disposable razors in the envelope to be recycled.

Once collected, the used products are broken down and seperated by material. Plastics are cleaned and recycled into pellets which can then be used to make new products whilst metal materials are sent for smelting into new alloys. As the market leaders, Gillette and Gillette Venus are dedicated to helping improve the sustainability of the category, therefore the recycling programme will also accept blades, razors and disposable razors from any brand in the UK.

Coinciding with the launch of the recycling programme Gillette has also announced the introduction of four new hero packs, Mach3, Fusion5, SkinGuard Sensitive and ProGlide razors, which are 100% plastic free and fully recyclable. The sustainable Gillette packs will be on sale exclusively at major Tesco stores nationwide from today with Venus rolling out the same initiative from January 2020.

“We are very excited about the partnership with TerraCycle and the opportunity to offer our customers 100% recyclability of Gillette products, across the UK. As the world’s leading razor brand, we saw that it was our responsibility to ensure that we are coming up with sustainable innovations and solutions to the industry,” said Matt Thomas, Brand Manager, Gillette and Gillette Venus UK

“Through this innovative, first of its kind programme, disposable razors, replaceable-blade cartridge units and their associated packaging are now 100% recyclable through the Gillette Recycling Programme,” said TerraCycle CEO and founder Tom Szaky. “We are proud to partner with this forward-thinking company to offer consumers a way to divert razor waste from landfill.”
