eBay Teams Up with Apple, Samsung Austin Semiconductor and Sprint on a Renewable Energy Project

eBay has announced a joint agreement to purchase renewable energy with three other tech companies—Apple, Samsung and Sprint. The new project, called a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA), will support Apex Clean Energy’s White Mesa Wind Project in Crockett County, Texas, and will generate 75 megawatts of clean energy, which is the equivalent energy needed to power 20,000 homes.  Collaborative renewable energy purchase agreements like this allow companies to pool their energy needs and collectively support large-scale renewable energy programs. Apple expands global recycling programmes

Apple has announced a major expansion of its recycling programmes, quadrupling the number of locations US customers can send their iPhone to be disassembled by Daisy, its recycling robot. Daisy will disassemble and recycle select used iPhones returned to Best Buy stores throughout the US and KPN retailers in the Netherlands. Apple tops clean energy goal with new supplier commitments

Apple has announced it has nearly doubled the number of suppliers that have committed to run their Apple production on 100 percent clean energy, bringing the total number to 44. Because of this partnership between Apple and its suppliers, Apple will exceed its goal of bringing 4 gigawatts of renewable energy into its supply chain by 2020, with over an additional gigawatt projected within that timeframe.
