Asda to stop offering plastic carrier bags with online grocery shopping, in latest plastic-saving initiative

Asda is to stop providing single-use plastic carrier bags with its online grocery orders, in a move that will remove around 85 million plastic bags from production each year. Following a successful trial period in South-West England and from its Dartford Home Shopping Centre, Asda will remove the option to have a ‘bagged’ delivery on all grocery home shopping and click & collect orders nationwide from 31st July, resulting in a saving of over 500 tonnes of plastic. Asda call for ‘vital’ food bank donations ahead of busy summer holiday period

Asda stores across the UK are launching a week-long food drive today to support their local food banks with ‘vital’ donations ahead of the school holidays. Customers will be encouraged to donate in-demand items such as tinned goods and hygiene products to their local foodbank in a trolley at the front of the store. In a first of its kind collaboration, Asda and Warburtons are launching a ‘You Buy One, We Give One’ promotion, which will donate food to charities without any additional cost to customers. George at Asda to sell products made from recycled plastic bottles and clothing as part of new sustainability pledge

George, the fashion and homewares arm of the supermarket Asda, will for the first time sell products made from recycled plastic bottles and clothing, as part of a commitment to use only polyester that is sourced from recycled materials by 2025.
