Waitrose and Shell have set out ambitious plans to grow their partnership, installing hundreds of electric vehicle charging points in the supermarket’s car parks and more than doubling the number of Shell forecourt shops where Waitrose food is available. The companies have announced that they are targeting the installation of 800 Shell Recharge electric vehicle charging points in up to 100 Waitrose locations across the UK by 2025. Waitrose to stop selling bagged gardening compost made from peat

Waitrose has brought forward plans to stop selling bagged gardening compost made from peat, pledging to only sell peat-free alternatives by the start of 2022 – helping its customers adopt more sustainable practices in their gardens.  The move will come several years ahead of government plans, which recently announced it intends to ban the sale of compost containing peat to amateur gardeners by the close of the current parliament in 2024. Waitrose rolls out trial to help customers dispense of hard to recycle flexible plastic packaging in-store.

Waitrose has announced plans to roll out a new trial that will allow its customers to return hard to recycle flexible plastics at their local store. The scheme, which goes live this week at 37 branches serviced by Waitrose’s Leyland Distribution Centre in the North of England, will permit all clean flexible plastics that can be crunched up, stretched, squashed or unfurled to be deposited in-store for an initial period of 12 weeks.
