Downing LLP partners with Yorkshire Water to develop 28 new solar sites

Investment and asset manager, Downing LLP, is pleased to announce it has been selected by Yorkshire Water to develop, design, build and operate a portfolio of 28 solar sites across Yorkshire. The first phase of solar deployments, an investment worth around £25 million, will generate a total capacity of approximately 21MW. This represents Downing’s second successful tender award from a UK regulated utility company. Yorkshire Water and Birds Eye to support carbon-capturing ‘pop up rainforest’

The Sustainable Landscapes Humber Project – a collaboration between Yorkshire Water, Nomad Foods-owned Birds Eye, Future Food Solutions and Hull and Teesside universities – will see farmers growing cover crops between harvesting and sowing. Known as pop up rainforests, the diverse range of cover crops can capture huge amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere. Trials have shown the plants can also increase soil organic matter by up to 40 tonnes per hectare, which can sequester nett over four tonnes of atmospheric carbon per year. Woodland Trust, Yorkshire Water and Forest of Bradford kick off the planting of 1 million trees

Last month saw the planting of over 14,000 trees at Ogden Water marking the start of a partnership that will see one million trees planted on land owned by Yorkshire Water and leased by the Woodland Trust to help expand the White Rose Forest as part of the new Northern Forest project. Planting will be carried out by The Forest of Bradford and the Woodland Trust.
