The International Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (ICAS) is thrilled to expand its membership with the addition of The Portman Group.
The Portman Group, the UK’s social responsibility body and regulator for alcohol labelling, packaging and promotion, is the latest associate member to join the International Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (ICAS), becoming its 35th member.
The Portman Group is the self-regulator for the naming, packaging, promotion, and sponsorship of alcoholic products in the UK. The Portman Group was established in 1989 to ensure responsible business practices in the alcohol industry, and for nearly 30 years it has enforced its Code of Practice which sets the minimum standards for alcohol producers to promote their products responsibly.
As a member of ICAS, The Portman Group will collaborate with international peers to share best practices, develop innovative approaches to alcohol advertising regulation, and contribute to a global landscape of responsible marketing.
Guy Parker, ICAS President and Chief Executive of the ASA, UK, stated:
We are thrilled to welcome The Portman Group to our global network. The ASA and The Portman Group have worked closely together for many years to encourage and challenge the UK alcohol industry to market its products responsibly. We look forward to expanding this partnership on a global scale and benefiting from their extensive expertise in alcohol marketing.
Matt Lambert, the Chief Executive of the Portman Group said:
With over 170 irresponsible and inappropriate alcohol products removed from shelves over the years, the alcohol industry’s self-regulation system in the UK has proven itself to be a robust and effective model for enforcing responsible marketing and promoting the highest standards. We are delighted to join ICAS as associate members and we look forward to sharing best practice, joining a global community of self-regulators and collaborating with our colleagues across the world.
