The ASA/CAP have released a post called: Disposing of misleading ads. I have enclosed the text of the link below, but please have a look at the ASA/CAP site as there are lots of things of interest to anyone with an interest in Ethical Marketing. Taking out the bins shouldn’t be a complicated chore and making sure ads don’t mislead people about how to dispose of a product or its packaging properly doesn’t have to be either. In November 2023, the ASA published independent research into how terms like ‘recyclable’, ‘compostable’,…

Grown in a lab, released in the wild: Laos unleashes over 130 million disease-reducing mosquitoes after global dengue surge
More than 130 million disease-reducing mosquitoes are being released in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, after cases of dengue hit a record high globally in 2024 at over 14.4 million – more than double the previous record of 2023 [1], with children at greater risk of severe dengue illness. The lab-grown mosquitoes carry a naturally occurring bacteria called Wolbachia, which reduces the insect’s ability to transmit deadly viruses to people, decreasing the risk of dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever outbreaks. When Wolbachia mosquitoes are released, they breed with wild…

Road pollution ‘stressing’ ocean life with complex chemical cocktails, new study finds
Chemicals released from car tyres as they wear down are washing into rivers, estuaries and the sea and they could be disrupting life at the base of the marine food web, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of Portsmouth found that just four days of exposure to three common tyre-derived chemicals significantly slowed the growth of tiny marine algae known as diatoms – single-celled plants that produce oxygen and support entire ocean ecosystems. The study focused on a species called Phaeodactylum tricornutum, a diatom that like others,…
Jordan sets historic record for women in politics: legal reforms and leadership training drive change
A new generation of Jordanian women are participating in politics – backed by grassroots advocacy and concrete national reforms, supported by UN Women initiatives. “We want women to say, ‘This is my place’”, declares Yusra Al-Kharisha. “We want women to move into Parliament, into education and political leadership. We want them to say, “My place extends beyond the home.” In the last five years, Jordan has enacted sweeping changes to boost women’s participation as voters, election workers and political candidates. In 2024, women won almost 20 per cent of parliamentary…
