Bill Gates announces investment to improve Alzheimer’s diagnosis

Leading philanthropist Bill Gates has announced that he is to invest in a new fund designed to bring about improved diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, the most common cause of dementia. Mr Gates made his first investment into dementia research in November 2017 when he put $50m into the Dementia Discovery Fund (DDF), which provides backing for early-stage drug discovery projects around the globe. A world-leading research fund founded in part by Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has reached a new milestone thanks to a $60m investment from US organisation AARP. Medical charities collaborate to ensure research results are shared

23 members of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) are working in collaboration to develop and launch a joint publication platform, AMRC Open Research.  By removing traditional barriers and delays to publication, the new platform will help the charities maximise the value of the donations they receive by making it possible for every output from the research they fund to be rapidly and openly shared.
