As you walk into your local supermarket for your weekly grocery shop or grab a quick takeaway lunch from the café in your office, it’s worth remembering how privileged we are to be in a position with such ease of access to food; when currently 1 in 10 people are living in hunger and poverty globally, and 60% of these people being women and girls.
The Hunger Project (THP) is on a mission to break this cycle of hunger and poverty by putting the power into the hands of those affected. By providing access to education, forming partnerships with local authorities, and lifting people, one by one, towards a better, more sustainable life. Their global community of volunteers offers mentor support through the Vision, Commitment and Action (VCA) workshops. Investing in the resilience of such communities has led to over 2 million people attending this workshop, and 86% are now convinced that they can design their own future.
The ethos of THP is to empower individuals to take action towards building a better future. Kaptcha were delighted to bring this to life, through the stories of three women supported by THP: Faridah and Hadijah from Uganda and Hansa from India. The film took the form of a letter, for any woman being told that something’s impossible.
“The Letter” allows Faridah, Hadjidah and Hansa the opportunity to tell future generations that there is hope, that there is a brighter tomorrow, and that their hard work and perseverance will lead to change.
As part of “The Letter” campaign, THP invites you to take a moment to write a letter to yourself in the future, imagining the type of world you want to create. By participating in “The Letter,” you are not only committing your hopes and dreams to paper but also making a tangible investment in your future and the future of our world.
THP asked Kaptcha to produce a film that would spread awareness of the initiative while highlighting how climate change impacts rates of hunger and poverty globally. Kaptcha’s approach was authentic, honest and emotional. Combining the voices of three women to inspire the next generation of women who may be living in hunger, to escape the reins of poverty with the support of the charity.
Country Director for THP-UK, Diane Gault says,
“Hunger is the world’s greatest solvable problem. Unlike many big global issues, ending persistent, chronic hunger globally is possible and our generation has the power to end it once and for all. Faridah, Hadijah and Hansa’s stories are testament to the resilience of the communities and people we work with; we know that the people living in hunger are not the problem, they are the solution. By empowering women, we can improve agricultural productivity, increase incomes, and address the hunger and poverty cycle with lasting impact. Kaptcha have created a video that encapsulates all of this and through sharing these inspiring stories in such a beautifully creative way, educate people on how long-lasting change can end world hunger.”
Alice Thomson, Producer for Kaptcha was delighted to work alongside such an incredible team at THP:
“Using a letter to spread awareness of THP movement, while simultaneously inspiring individuals with the stories of these incredible women, has been truly memorable. We hope the film leaves an impression through the legacy they have created within their communities”.
