Toiletries Amnesty launches Circular Economy Awareness Week

Toiletries Amnesty is delighted to announce that they are launching Circular Economy Awareness Week in March 2024.

The inaugural campaign will run from 18-24 March 2024, with the aim of raising awareness of how people can redirect their waste away from landfill and into the hands of those in need.

Toiletries Amnesty is a social, ethical and environmental organisation that makes access to hygiene essentials easy for those in need, while stopping masses of surplus products from going to waste. They have championed the circular economy ethos since their inception in 2014.

Speaking about what inspired the initiative, Toiletries Amnesty Project Manager Rachel McCarty says: “Unfortunately, we live in a throwaway economy. What makes Toiletries Amnesty different from other organisations is that we will never buy new products, or incentivise further consumption. We know that there are literally tonnes of useful, usable products being sent to landfill every day. It’s a global environmental problem. We are working hard to redirect that excess stock to our network of charities, but there is so much more to be done. We all need to stop wasting, and start helping”.

The Circular Economy Awareness Week will encourage everyone from big beauty businesses to small community groups and individuals to rethink what they do with their unwanted products, whether brand new or part-used. Toiletries Amnesty will be offering advice and support to businesses to make sure they are closing the loop on their waste.

Toiletries Amnesty will also be running a number of fundraising initiatives during this time to ensure that they can keep providing their services to their network of more than 600 charities for free. This will include a push on their Broken Jewellery Project, where people are encouraged to send in their broken or unwanted jewellery and beads. The beads are transformed into bracelets by people supported through the work of Toiletries Amnesty. Proceeds from the sale of these bracelets go straight back into supporting those in need, and so the cycle of kindness continues.
