Consumer backlash against unsustainable packaging despite industry efforts to improve

The vast majority of British consumers still think companies use too much packaging despite industry evidence showing a slight reduction in materials used to deliver products. New research of 2,000 adults across the UK commissioned by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), found that 85 per cent of consumers still believe companies use too much packaging, slightly down from research commissioned 12 months ago when the figure stood at 88 per cent. A survey of current UK marketing priorities from the Chartered Institute of Marketing reveals that brand reputation remains key in coping with COVID-19. Six in ten marketers rank this as their number one priority, in contrast to discounts and promotions which came bottom of the list. The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has announced significant changes to its Chartered status, the marketing industry’s most prestigious accreditation.  The changes represent a shift in the skills required of marketers today and will provide businesses with an up to date indicator when it comes to appointing qualified marketing talent.
